Safety Integrity Level: Machine safety according to NEN-EN-IEC 62061:

Employers are responsible for machine safety. The EU has put the machine directive in place for all 28 member states, stating how new machines need to be secured. The EU directives are translated into national legislation in each member state. In the Netherlands the machine directive is implemented in the commodities act machines. For new as well as existing machines risk assessment and evaluation are mandatory. During these activities the risks and risk reduction measures are documented. The order of priority is:

  • Pursuit of inherent safety. All potential dangers are effectively shielded.
  • Define safety measures to reduce risks, for instance automatic machine stop at entering certain proximity of the machine.
  • Describe and display information about left over risks that cannot be covered by above mentioned measures.
